Pacific Beach Hotel Transforms Into ʻAlohilani Resort

Pacific Beach Hotel is set to be renamed ʻAlohilani Resort at Waikiki Beach after undergoing a US $115 million revamp. The 839-room hotel will remain open throughout the redevelopment, with redesigned guest rooms and suites already available to book in the Oceanarium Tower. When complete it will include a bar and an upgraded 1,060,000-litre oceanarium with water filtered from the ocean in the lobby, a deck with an infinity pool, a pool bar, tiered day beds, cabanas and a separate kids’ pool and club. There will also be two new restaurants created exclusively for the hotel by acclaimed chef Masaharu Morimoto. The property’s design includes natural rock formations indoors, a limestone reception desk, lava stone mosaic accents, woven columns and curated artwork which pay homage to native Hawaiian culture, an d strong use of natural materials, including wood, stone, and concrete. The resort sits on land formerly held by the Queen Liliuokalani Trust and its new name – Hawaiian for the ‘heavenly brightness’ – was chosen to honour Queen Liliuokalani.
